Latest news on Marcel’s treatment

It’s important to explain to you that Marcel’s problems are related to the fact that he was diagnosed and hospitalized in Lima, Peru, where currently, he cannot leave his sterilized room.

All treatment must be paid in advance, otherwise the treatments cannot start and Marcel’s life would be at risk. During a single week of treatment, the expenses have reached 12,000 US dollars because there have been unexpected problems: blood and platelet transfusions, assisted breathing, anesthesia, blood removal from one lung, etc.

During the first month (and possibly more), Marcel must remain hospitalized. When possible, we will try by all means to move him to Spain (Marcel has Spanish nationality, as do his father and his brother Andreu). In Spain, Marcel can continue his treatment through the Spanish Social Security health system. However, this plan is not possible at the moment because of the necessary hospitalization. The use of a medical airplane, apart from the risks involved, would be too expensive.

The latest updates inform us that Marcel is in a happy mood, with renewed appetite, and the swelling of his spleen and other organs is beginning to reverse. The next step is to perform a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), in order to determine the evolution of the treatment. The cost of this step is approximately 2,500 US dollars.
